MISSIONS HISTORY
Love.Pray.Give.Go.Do
In 1895, the 100 members of First Baptist, Amarillo, gave a very sacrificial foreign missions offering of $320. They surely had no idea that little more than a century later their church would give more than $800,000 each year for missions work and that members of their church would be traveling around the globe to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.
From those earliest years of the churchʼs life, First Baptist has been committed to show Christʼs love with our words and with our actions. Today that involves giving, church planting, missions education, and missions engagement for all ages.
In word and in deed...
In the missions efforts of First Baptist Church, we seek to proclaim Christ and live the Gospel in word and in deed. We have implemented this in our short-term mission trips by partnering with missionaries, indigenous local churches, and with other organizations. Each year more than 10% of our average weekly attendance leaves the country to be on mission in these ways. Our hope is to leverage their gifts, abilities, energies, talents, and resources to display the Gospel and to empower believers around the world. Our philosophy is to place ourselves in the service of local believers and to do our best in encouraging and strengthening their work.
